about MetroFON, broadband and features

Is there something you
still need to know?
..........................................................................................................................................
Q:
Why am I being provided with the standard RJ45
UTP cable for connection instead of using a Fiber Optic cable?
A:
The backbone is running on fiber optics and it
needs to be converted to UTP when it reaches the subscriber premises
via Metro Ethernet Broadband. The line is converted to UTP cable as
to ensure that our valued customers do not need to purchase a fiber
optic modem and any other expensive hardware equipment. Therefore,
it provides easy plug and play to any computer.

Q: I use a
dial-up connection on a 56k modem. Can you describe how much faster
MetroFON is compared to what I use now?
A:
Many factors can
influence the delivery of data, particularly once you are out on the
Internet. These factors can include how busy the Internet is at the
time you're using it, and how many hits the site you are visiting is
getting. MetroFON offers speeds up to 100 times faster than
traditional dial-up connections over its high-speed network.

Q:
Do I need to have a phone line in order to
have MetroFON?
A:
NO! MetroFON
service is delivered to your computer through a new UTP network
cable that is newly pulled into your home. The methods of delivery
is the same as subscribing to a new satellite television channel.
This will keep MetroFON affordable, too.

Q: Right now, I'm paying
for an extra phone line and my dial-up service: do I need to keep
them if I get MetroFON?
A:
Not unless you
enjoy the expense. MetroFON costs about the same as having that
extra phone line and dial-up service, plus you get all the
time-saving benefits! If you'd like to find out more about MetroFON

Q:
The ADSL providers say that other Broadband
Connections are "shared" and will slow down when too many people in
my neighborhood come online. Is that true?
A: All Internet access,
including ADSL, are shared and no one can guarantee or control
speed, due to variables inherent to the Internet. What the DSL
companies want you to believe is that other Broadband connection
will slow down when more users come online and that DSL does not
slow down. There are two other things you should know about DSL and
speed.
-
ADSL slows down the further you live from their facilities.
-
ADSL connection is pooled with all other traffic at the
exchange. This shows that DSL is also Shared.
MetroFON backbone capacity is 120Gbps and the
Fiber Optic Networks ensure that Penang FON Broadband Service is
scalable from 2Mbps to 1Gbps (1,000Mbps) and ready for upgrade.

Q:
What does
your one time RM 40 activation and RM 80 installation covers?
A:
The activation charge of RM 40 is based on first time activation
which consisting of connecting the physical wire to the port and
activation of your account. Subsequence re-Activation charge is RM
60.
The
RM 80 Installation charge is based on first time configuration
support of one computer and free wiring from the nearest Port to the
point of entry in your house. Beyond inside the house, customer has
to engage the appointed contractor to do the additional wiring.
The additional wiring within the house is an arrangement between
customer and Contactor which has no relation with the MetroFON
charges and services. Our standard installation includes 4 meters of
cable from the entry point into your home and we will install a
patch panel. A further 1 meter of loose patch cord will be provided
for connecting the PC to the patch panel.
Should you require additional wiring, the
standard recommended wiring charge (without piping) by contractor is
RM 5 per meter which is payable to the third party contactor. It is
also recommended that the wiring does not exceed 100 meters from our
nearest port to the device or PC.
